Wojnowice – a fortified complex – a castle surrounded by a moat with a bridge, today the Home of the Creative Work of the Association of Art Historians

The Gothic castle was built around 1513 for Nicolaus von Schewitz. Between 1545 and 1562, it was rebuilt for Jakob Boner and Andreas Hertwig, townspeople from Wrocław. The shape of the castle remained intact until the years 1974 – 1978, when it was converted into a holiday centre.
The castle is surrounded by a moat. It is a brick, quadrilateral building with a courtyard. Most of the rooms are shaped in the enfilade layout (one room behind another). On the façade there are several foundation plaques of, among others, Nicolaus von Schewitz and his wife, and Andreas Hertwig; there are also the coats of arms of the von Boner and von Huber families. In some of the rooms, decorated beam-framed floors, dating back to the 17th and the 18th centuries, have been preserved. The north wing is entered through a brick bridge from the 19th century. Fragments of the park created in the 19th century have survived around the building.
It is the most interesting regular shape lowland castle in Lower Silesia. Today it houses, among others, Dom Pracy Twórczej Stowarzyszenia Historyków Sztuki (the House of Creative Work of the Association of Art Historians).
