Lubin – a castle (a ruin)
Wybierz obiekt:

The castle was erected in the early 14th century, probably upon the foundations of the older grad (a type of medieval defensive settlement). Around 1422, Otton von Zedlitz, rebuilt the wooden castle into a brick one, and enclosed the site with fortificati

The castle in Lubin was built in the mid-14th century by Louis I. After it was damaged by Swedish troops in the 17th century it was reconstructed. In the 19th century, a county administration building was erected on the site of the castle.

The brick building is built on a quadrilateral plan with a quadrilateral gate tower. In the 19th century the tower (with shooting loops) was converted into a bell tower. Only a single-nave Gothic chapel, funded in 1349 by Louis I the Duke of Legnica-Brieg, has survived to this day. In the 18th century the chapel was reconstructed in the Baroque style. In the wall of the chapel a portal from 1349 was preserved; on the portal there is a tympanum depicting the Man of Sorrows, St. Hedwig and the founding couple with a model of the chapel.

Today the former castle chapel houses two Zamkowa (Castle) Galleries and the Jadwiga (Hedwig) Gallery, both owned by the Wzgórze Zamkowe (The Castle Hill) Cultural Centre in Lubin.
